TWO popular muralists from West London are leading the way in painting a giant mural dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II in honour of her 70 years of service, which came to an end on September 8 when she died at her Balmoral estate aged 96.

Guinness World Record holders Jignesh and Yash Patel, both locals of Hounslow, have spent the past few days since the Queen’s death working on the project after choosing a two-storey building on Kingsley Road, just outside Hounslow East Underground station, to be their canvas.

The mural, once finished, will be visible from the Tube station, and will work to prolong Her Majesty’s legacy in an area that is home to residents of many different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

One person who was pleased to see the work of the artists, most of whom are from different denominations of the South Asian community, said: “What’s common between an Indian, Sri Lankan,

Pakistani and Bangladeshi?

“They are all painting the first community mural in Hounslow in honour of Her Majesty. Race relations have come a long way here.”

Jignesh, one of the artists leading the project, added: “This artwork will not only give the tribute to the Queen but also will be a piece of art that will be enjoyed by thousands of people across the UK for many years to come.”

Both muralists Jignesh and Yash hold five world records between them, including one for creating the largest bubble wrap painting, which was created last year by filling 200,000 bubbles. They also created a famous mural of artist Vincent Van Gogh on the front side of a terraced house, also on Kingsley Road in Hounslow. In 2020, Jignesh also featured in the ‘One Big Thank You’ segment on BBC’s The One Show. The artist, who is a supermarket manager by day, was recognised for taking time out after work throughout the lockdown to inspire children within his community to get involved in the arts. Jignesh also sold his own paintings and donated the money he made to charity.

This artwork is not just a tribute to the Queen but also will be a piece of art that will be enjoyed by thousands
