DOCTOR’S NOTE
A daily multivitamin boosts brain power in the over-65s, research shows.
Scientists think taking the tablets for three years could mean cognitive decline slowing by 60%. Principal investigator Professor Laura Baker said it is the first evidence of its kind in such a big study.
Prof Baker added: “There’s an urgent need for affordable interventions to protect cognition against decline in older adults.”
Researchers said older adults deficient in some micronutrients may be at greater risk of dementia.
The study of 21,000 Americans found that those with significant cardiovascular disease benefited the most.
