Arrest made after ‘hit and run’
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while trying to leave the country after what has been described as a ‘hit and run’ in Hounslow.
A car hit four pedestrians in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving two of them fighting for their lives.
Police were called at 2.43am to reports that four men, all in their early 20s, had been struck by a car in Kingsley Road close to the junction with Taunton Avenue. The driver reportedly did not stop at the scene.
At 7pm on Sunday a 20-year-old man was arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of attempted murder. He had booked a flight and was planning to leave the country. A second man was also arrested nearby on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Two of the men remain in a critical condition while the other two were treated for non-life changing injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Thrower said: “This was a serious incident that will have shocked the local community. Two men are in hospital fighting for their lives and our thoughts are with them and their families.
“Officers have acted without delay to identify a suspect. The arrest – which happened as the man was trying to fly out of the UK – is a timely and crucial development in this ongoing investigation. We will continue at pace as we work to establish what happened and to get justice for the victims. I would continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.”
The car, a Nissan Qashqai, was found by officers in Hounslow shortly after the crash. The incident is not being treated as terror related. Information can be providing by calling 101 or tweeting @MetCC with the reference 921/25SEP.
