THIS handsome-looking drama is the first foray by writer-director Hugo Blick (An Honourable Woman, Black Earth Rising) into historical fiction and takes us into 1890s Oklahoma. Emily Blunt plays Cornelia, an aristocratic woman who is determined to avenge her murdered son who finds an unlikely ally in Eli (Chaske Spencer), a Pawnee former soldier, after they are both held captive by Ciaran Hinds’ villainous Watts. Stunning landscapes are the backdrop for bloody deeds in this gritty depiction of the Wild West that doesn’t shy away from its brutality and prejudices.
