Gove postures as a defender of liberty
IN a report of Michael Gove’s speech in London to the Press Club he underlined the hypocrisy behind the Conservative government’s concept of ‘liberty’.
Gove postures as a defender of liberty in relation to free speech and expression while turning a blind eye to his own government’s reactionary Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act. He appears to conveniently forget that protest marches, silencing of noise of demonstrations or creating an environment where a minister is able to define what causes a public nuisance is linked to freedom of expression he claims to espouse.
Clearly physical protest is a natural corollary of what Gove claims to believe as free expression.
Perhaps his advocacy of a free media is more related to his intention to join a right wing radio station prior to being offered a place again in the cabinet.
