BONFIRE OUT OF CONTROL

- BY OLIVER CLAY oliver.clay@trinitymirror.com @OliverClayRWWN

HALTON businesses have been invited to meet the Mersey Gateway toll provider. The events are taking place from noon to 8pm at Select Security Stadium in Widnes on Monday, March 6, and at The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn on Wednesday, March 8.

Presentations are scheduled to take place at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. There is free parking at both venues. Firms that attend will be able to meet the toll contractor and have the tolls infrastructure explained.

According to Merseylink’s website, the tolls operator is French motorway operator Emovis, a subsidiary of Abertis, described as ‘the leading service deliv- ery and technology arm of Abertis for all electronic tolling and smart mobility solutions’, with more than 600 employees in seven countries managing more than 5,000 miles of roads around the world.

It said Emovis specialises in multilane free-flow projects such as the Dartford Crossing, the M50 in Dublin, Slovakia National Truck Tolling, and the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges in Vancouver.

It was previously known as Sanef until it changed its name in April 2016.

The firm was appointed to the project as part of the Merseylink consortium in 2013.

Tolls have been a hot topic throughout the Mersey Gateway project and have become a bugbear for some companies which have lobbied for discounts for firms based in Halton and further afield. ● A BONFIRE had to be brought under control in Widnes.

Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service was called to Margaret Court at 5.51pm on Saturday, February 18.

Firefighters found that a garden bonfire had got out of control and damaged a fence.
