Children build dream dens for charity

-

SCHOOLS and youth groups across Halton are being encouraged to sign up for an educational interactive fundraising event later this year.

Save The Children’s Den Day is returning for a third year on Friday, June 17.

It will ask children from Runcorn and Widnes to join in with a creative and fun adventure as they build dens together to raise money and ensure more youngsters around the world have a safe place to sleep and play.

In 2016, 600,000 children signed up and helped to raise funds to support Save The Children’s work helping vulnerable children across the world.

Schools, youth groups and families in the borough can sign up to receive fundraising kits containing everything they need to hold a fun- filled day.

The kit includes posters, stickers, den ideas and great teaching resources to easily link Den Day into the curriculum and schools plans.

Teaching resources are designed to fit with the Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculums, encouraging creativity and teamwork, while pupils learn about the challenges that some children face around the world, and how their fundraising will help.

The charity’s interim head of community giving Vicky Fallon said: “We were amazed at the incredible response from children who took part in Den Day 2016 to raise money for Save The Children.

“We hope to make 2017 even bigger and better with more children taking part across the UK.

“By designing their dream den and raising money in their own unique way, school children taking part in Save The Children’s Den Day can help transform children’s lives.”

Groups taking part can raise money by helping children receive sponsorship for their den-building or simply asking all youngsters involved to make a donation.
