Jill tees-off on what she hopes will be another successful year for ladies’ section

-

FOLLOWING recent tradition Runcorn Golf Club ladies’ section held their annual Ladies’ Captain’s Drive-In on Friday.

Jill Brookes, elected as the Ladies’ Captain the previous evening, stepped on to the tee for her first golf shot to mark the start of her golfing year.

She was watched by many of the ladies, her proud husband Dennis and the incoming club president, Graham Peattie and incoming captain Richard Hayter.

Jill joined the club in 1993 following her retirement, she had decided that it would be a good way to exercise and would be something which she could share with Dennis once he retired. Jill has been an active member of the club since joining, she has served on the ladies committee and was a non-executive board member representing the ladies’ section.

She, together with her friend last year’s ladies’ captain Dorothy Yates, organised the annual Lady Captain’s Charity coffee morning for almost 10 years. The game has been a source of great enjoyment for Jill and she has not only played in the club competitions, (she won the Ethel Robertson Trophy partnered by friend Dorothy in 2008), but also in the friendly matches played against Widnes and Helsby ladies, in open competitions at other clubs and has been on a number of golfing holidays.

Jill is really looking forward to her year of office and has named her charity for the year as Guide Dogs for the Blind, a cause which she has supported for many years. ● Runcorn Golf Club ladies’ section held their annual Ladies’ Captain’s Drive-In last Friday.
