Millfield’s checkouts too good for Hotel as they register a whitewash

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, matches in the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League were played.

Halton Stadium at home to Widnes Bowling Club took the first game through John Bowles (18 darts).

The Bowler responded with three in a row from Scott Grady, Joe Batty and opening pair, Mark Smith & Alex McGill.

It was a good lead, but it was not to last as Halton Stadium secured the next five games and the match through Eddie Dootson & John Bowles, Joe Price & John Kilkenny (180), Kevin Garcia, Alan Magee and Joe Kelly.

In a dominant display of darts, the Millfield at home to the Mersey Hotel claimed all nine games.

Alan Sutton, Ray Dutton, Keith Horabin in the singles followed by pairs Ray Dutton & Ronnie Greylish, Chris Hall & Keith Horabin, Ian Wall & Billy Fox and then Chris Taylor, Chris Hall and Ronnie Greylish in the final three games of singles completed the whitewash.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Majors Arms took the first game through Andy Abbott. Luke Carey levelled before a further win from Darren Attwood took the Majors ahead.

Brian Abbott (106 checkout) & Andy Abbott restored parity. Then a win from Andy O’Grady & Luke Carey restored the Majors’ lead.

Simms Cross Institute then responded with three in a row through Tony Green, Glyn Owen and Brian Abbott to take the match.

The Wellington at home to the Goldmine had an excellent start as they won the first six games through John Glover, Terry Roach and Mark Tyrer in the singles, followed by pairs, Karl Whitfield & Scott Devany, James Holden & Terry Roach and John Lewis & John Glover to ensure victory.

The Goldmine avoided a blanking as Sean Bell won his match, but the Wellington were still on a roll as they took the final two games through Karl Whitfield and Ste Whitfield (15 darts).

Widnes RUFC at home to the Mill Brow SC grabbed the first game through Andy Griffiths.

The Brow’s Tommy Owen’s levelled before a further five wins from the Brow’s Paul Linger, Mark Harrison & Jack Dunn, Neil Platt & Chris Bright, Tommy Owens & Paul Linger and Eric Peel ensured victory for their team.

Dan Newall claimed the penultimat­e contest for the Wids whilst Carl Hackney added the final game to the Mill Brow SC’s already winning tally. ● Also on Monday in the William Saxon Secretarie­s Cup, Joe Price reached the final after beating Andy Abbott in their semi-final played at Widnes Bowling Club. Meantime, in the games played at Widnes RUFC, Tommy Robertson booked his place in the final with wins in the last-four and semi-final.
