Bowles is hero for Stadium

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, matches in Division One of the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

The Millfield at home to Halton Stadium conceded the first game to the Stadium’s Joe Kelly (19 darts).

Billy Fox quickly levelled for the Millfield before teammate Chris Taylor took them ahead.

The Stadium’s opening pair, Kenny Murphy & John Bowles soon restored parity at 2-2.

A further two wins from Colin Rigby & Barry Stanners and Joe Kelly & Eddie Dootson gave the Stadium a 4-2 edge.

But then a late rally from the Millfield’s Danny Wood and Alan Sutton levelled the score at 4-4 setting up a grandstand finish.

John Bowles (13 darts) then took the final game securing the match for Halton Stadium.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Corpy Club claimed the first game through Ged McPartland.

Mike Ruane with a 16-dart performanc­e then levelled for the Corpy.

The Stute responded with three victories in a row from Tony Green, Andy Abbott & Ged McPartland and Glyn Owen & Dave Evans to take a healthy 4-1 lead.

The Corpy recovered a point via Mike Ruane & Neil Platt (13 darts), only to see Simms Cross Institute secure the remaining three games and the match through Andy Abbott, Mick Cullen and Glyn Owen.

The Wellington at home to Widnes Bowling Club had an awful night as they conceded the first seven games to the Bowler’s Scott Grady, Dave Gerrard, Joe Batty, Scott Grady & Joe Batty, Alex McGill & Mark Smith, Scott Byrne & Andy Beddows and Alex McGill.

Putting some respectabi­lity to the final scoreline, the Wellington won the remaining two games through Ste Whitfield (14 darts) and Karl Whitfield as the contest ended 7-2 to the Bowler. ● More reports from the league on page 57.
