Loan shark suspects bailed after arrests

TWO suspects have been bailed after loan shark raids in Runcorn.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) said the men, aged 39 and 58, were arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending and money laundering.

They were pending enquiries.

Three warrants were executed at residentia­l properties in Runcorn and Speke last Wednesday, March 15, in a joint operation between the IMLT, Halton Borough Coun- bailed further cil and Liverpool City Council’s Trading Standards department, Merseyside Police and Cheshire Constabula­ry.

An IMLT spokeswoma­n said investigat­ors seized documentat­ion, electronic devices and cash.

The suspects from Runcorn were taken into custody for questionin­g by IMLT officers.

Cheshire police tweeted that the Runcorn warrants were in Sandymoor and Murdishaw.

Tony Quigley, the IMLT’s head of service, ● Illegal Money Lending Team said: “We will continue to work with local authoritie­s and the police to combat loan sharks. These criminals cause untold misery amongst our local communitie­s.

“If you’ve been issued a loan with no paperwork attached, or are receiving threats over a loan you have already paid off, please get in touch with the IMLT on 0300 555 2222. Your call will be handled by a trained IMLT officer and all informatio­n will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
