Hornets’ positivity key to win

HFH U10 20 Folly Lane U10 10 HORNETS took to the field with a strong determinat­ion to win and their positive attitude soon paid off as they opened the scoring with a try from Zac Mannion, closely followed with another from Jack Shaw.

HFH kept their defence tight but Folly Lane made a breakthrou­gh to score in the first half.

A second try from Mannion and seeing two successful conversion­s from Joe Blackwood and Joel Kilgannon left HFH leading 16-4 at half-time.

Mannion started the second half as he did the first and took HFH over the line again.

With some tired legs in tough muddy conditions HFH let Folly Lane gain ground to score another try and a conversion.

The final score reflected all the hard work HFH had put into the match and they were all awarded the man-ofthe-match accolade.

Coaches’ award went to Theo McNulty, team captain for the week Ben Mannering picked up top defender and Joel Kilgannon was awarded top attacker.

HFH U8 8 Leigh Miners U8 8 IN an extremely muddy and bruising encounter which saw both sides stand up and be counted, it ended honours shared with eight tries apiece.

HFH showed some excellent play going forward with tries from Joe Bebbington, James Prescott, Ollie Jenkins, Cian Winstanley, Dylan Stephenson and Matty Brown.

Every player, though, made headway towards the Leigh line with not one taking a step backwards.

The match was settled with the defensive display which was simply outstandin­g.

Leading from the front was Cian Winstanley who was all over the park putting in some brilliant hard tackles when the team needed it. This earned him the man-of-the-match award. Matty Brown’s textbook tackling was brilliant too against a Leigh side that relied on two main big runners.

The coaches’ award was given to Mathew Sinclair who was ever present in the centre of the park providing some big tackles and back-up play.
