U14s’ fine teamwork rewarded
HFH U14 44 Leigh East U14 12 THIS was an overall excellent team performance by Hornets which oozed the confidence and selfbelief which the lads have been struggling to find in the past few weeks but shows the training sessions are now paying off.
Sam Craig opened the scoring with Alex Sutton converting in difficult windy conditions.
Hornets’ second try came from a team move which saw Brandon Sutton touch down in the corner.
Soon after, an excellent solo burst and run of 50 plus metres saw Alex Sutton score under the sticks.
He then successfully converted his own try.
Leigh East then tried to apply some pressure and were rewarded with a converted try.
However, a few minutes before the interval saw Alex Sutton receive an excellent pass after a cheeky little dummy from stand-off Craig.
His strength and determination made the score 22-6 in Hornets’ favour at half-time.
The second half saw Craig score two tries in quick succession to secure his hat-trick.
It was then Owen Blackbrook’s turn to show his pace, scoring from a 60m run down the left wing and converting his own try.
Leigh East gained some consolation with a converted try but the game was won convincingly with a final Blackwood four-pointer in the last few minutes.
All 14 lads showed great commitment and a positive attitude after a difficult start to season and the team will be hoping this result boosts their confidence further. HFH U9 Green 8 Woolston U9 6 THE Greens welcomed Woolston and both teams played a good physical game on a heavy pitch in tough conditions.
