Parkinson’s drop-in dates

-

RESIDENTS living with Parkinson’s in Runcorn have been invited to attend the launch of a monthly drop-in cafe session.

The first event is due to take place on Thursday, April 13, at Halton Lea Library.

A spokeswoman for the charity Parkinson’s UK said the sessions will give residents diagnosed with the condition, their carers and relatives the chance to enjoy chat, laughter, friendship and mutual support.

The sessions are being launched during Parkinson’s Awareness Week, running from April 10-16.

Marion Rogers, Parkinson’s UK area development manager, said: “Current drugs do not slow down, stop or reverse the condition and people with Parkinson’s urgently need a breakthrough.

“We hope this new support group will help local people affected by the condition come together and meet others in the same situation.

“The meetings will be totally informal, with no committee, no agenda and no subscriptions.

“It will be somewhere people can share experiences and positive ways of trying to take control of the condition – a mutual support group, where the chat doesn’t necessarily have to be about Parkinson’s at all.”

Following its launch in Parkinson’s Awareness Week, the Runcorn Parkinson’s cafe will run on the fourth Thursday of each month starting from 1.30pm.
