Honours even in a fine game
HFH U8 6 Culcheth U8 6 IN a brilliant match which saw both sides equally matched it was honours shared in the end as the two hardworking U8s outfits ran in six tries apiece.
For Halton Farnworth Hornets there was some brilliant attacking play from every player and no player took a backwards step.
Up front there was good work from Euan Mcpherson, George Sanderson, Kobe McKinnon and Aiden Clarke who all ran the ball in hard against some tough tackling Culcheth players.
But it was Matthew Sinclair who stood out down the middle with his runs and tough tackling which earned him the top tackler award.
Out wide it was Cian Winstanley who split the defence with a brilliant run and Dylan Stephenson who almost turned himself inside out who scored a try.
And on his debut for the club, Ellis Lloyd – who was captain for the day – made some great attacking runs and was awesome in defence, especially on his own line. This effort earned him the coaches’ award.
In defence all the HFH boys stood their ground with Cooper Di Luca and Daniel Stephens stepping up to the plate. But it was Ollie Jenkins, who also scored a try, and James Prescott, who crossed for a hat-trick and received the man-of-the-match honour, who between them registered no less than 45 tackles and completely dominated Culcheth’s big players.
It was a brilliant display of rugby league and every player from both sides should be very proud of their efforts in a memorable encounter. ●
