Armed police used in arrest operation
POLICE are still hunting two thugs behind a suspected stabbing in Runcorn after a 19-year-old man was arrested and released with no further action on Sunday in connection with the investigation.
Cheshire Constabulary said the assault took place at about 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 4.
The victim, 37, had been walking along the Bridgewater Canal from Spur Road and was approached by two men as he passed under a bridge. He attended Halton Hospital for his injuries, transferred to Warrington and was later discharged.
A Cheshire police spokeswoman said the incident was called in as a ‘stabbing’ but the nature of the attack had not been confirmed.
She added that there were no descriptions of the attackers.
The incident is being treated as a ‘serious assault’.
A North West Ambulance ● Service spokeswoman said there had been no requests for paramedics to attend the area between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
There were hopes of a breakthrough over the weekend after a search resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old man in Runcorn Old Town on Sunday.
A helicopter took part in the operation to track down the suspect.
Cheshire And North Wales Alliance Armed Policing (AAP) issued a tweet saying its team had assisted Runcorn police with a Taser deployment.
It said the male had previously made off prior to arrival.
However, he was later released action.
