Diesel drivers persecuted

- Kev

CAN I ask what if anything can people in the same situation as me do?

Having served in the Army during the 80s I worked three jobs totalling around 70 hours a week. Earning good money and wrongfully listening to our Government, I and my wife purchased brand new diesel cars. Thirteen years on, we still have these very same cars which for their age are in perfect condition having had every single MOT performed at the Halton Council depot in Widnes.

I have been unable to work now for some eight years due to health problems and disability and those of my wife for the past six years. Now, because we were stupid enough to purchase our home, we do not get any help with our mortgage and no help with council tax as our son and daughter who both work and are unable to afford a home of their own and because they never had children with their partners, they are not entitled to social housing.

Because of crackdowns on benefit cheats, many of whom still get away with it to this day, my wife had her mobility striped from her and has not had a single penny in benefits for four years as she is deemed able to work although she clearly cannot, backed by her doctor and specialists.

This leaves me and my children to pay the mortgage, council tax, prescription charges and all the other bills that come with owning a home which leaves me with no disposable income and sitting in the winter in a house we cannot afford to heat. Now onto our cars. We are being told that the Government want all diesel cars off our roads. We took the Government’s advice and purchased diesel cars even though the price of diesel increased, with the cost of refining diesel being blamed as an excuse. I cannot afford a mobility car as we use this money to live on. We cannot buy another vehicle as we cannot afford to and would not get finance.

What limited mobility both me and my wife have at the moment is going to be cut to almost nothing when we can no longer afford to drive vehicles a Labour Government encouraged us to purchase as environmentally friendly, and now a Tory Government is persecuting us for.

Please explain to us: what do we do now?
