Woman who had gun waits to hear her fate
ARUNCORN woman who admitted having a shotgun and ammunition is to be sentenced next month after the matter was adjourned.
Joanne Marie Daniels, 44, of no fixed abode, formerly Leaside, was due to discover her fate at Chester Crown Court on Thursday, April 20, but the case was rescheduled after it emerged she had not attended an appointment with the probation service.
His Honour Judge Roger Dutton, presiding, agreed to give her another chance to discuss her case with someone.
Daniels had previously pleaded guilty on the morning of trial on Thursday, March 30, to possessing a double-barrel over-and-under hammerless shotgun, and possessing six Brazilian .44 inch Remington Magnum Cartridges and one Israeli .45 inch ACP cartridge.
The offences related to a visit from the police at a property on Leaside in Halton Brook on June 19, 2015.
Jeremy Rawson, defending, said she had a clean record but that the maximum sentence for possessing a firearm without a certificate is seven years in prison.
Judge Dutton adjourned the matter to Friday, May 12, and bailed her on condition she attends a probation appointment.
He also asked how she claims to have come into possession of the weapon, which was not capable of firing and was with ammunition not suitable for firing with a shotgun.
Mr Rawson said: “It was taken to her property when she had moved out by an individual who asked her to look after it.
“She looked in a blanket, it was wrapped and she saw it was a gun.
“The police contacted her several weeks later at the address with some intelligence there was a gun. She took the police to her address and the gun was recovered. I think it was put to her during the course of the interview she had been intimidated into cooperating.
“She denied that but the crown indicated that the intelligence tends to suggest she was being put upon.” ●
