Haynes and Keeley shine as Hornets’ U13s see off Thatto in the cup

-

HFH U13 26 Thatto Heath 0 HORNETS started this year’s cup campaign with a good success against a strong Thatto Heath side.

Opposition man-of-thematch Harry Keeley opened the scoring as he took four defenders over with him.

He then showed the other side of his game as he stepped through the defence to run 80 metres to score. Lewis Hughes added the extras.

Hornets then had to cope with a lot of pressure on their own line as Thatto enjoyed a good attacking spell but their defence held strong and the teams went into the interval with the scoreline 10-0.

There was a scrappy start to the second half and Halton took a while to get going until strong runs from George Delaney and Jack Wilkinson got them on the front foot.

Nathan Bannerman powered onto the ball and stepped through to score, Charlie Glover tacking on the two.

Some good Hornets’ handling then found man-ofthe-match Sam Haynes who scorched down the touchline to score. Glover’s attempted touchline conversion bounced out off the post.

There was further good ball movement and Aiden Doolan found Haynes on the other side of the field. He backed himself again and beat several defenders to score from halfway.

Hughes converted to make the final score 26-0.

Although this was a convincing win, the Hornets’ team were not at their best.

Despite that, they dominated for the most part and managed a good victory.
