Tigers do roar early with quartet securing victories to single figures

LAST season’s top flight champions in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n, Tigers Head, started the season with a trip to Norton Arms ‘A’ and returned with a 141-112 success.

The Tigers had no fewer than four players winning in single figures – Kevin Duncalf (21-5), Chris Koral (21-7), Gerald Merry (21-8) and Mark Winnington (21-8).

The best replies for Norton came from Brian Worrall (21-10) and Peter Goodwin (21-12).

Setting the early pace in Section One are Pavilions ‘A’, this after a good win of 160-90 over last week’s leaders Kingswood ‘A’.

Leading the way for the Lions were Alan Briscoe (21-2), new captain Neal Ocego (21-6), Graham Oliver (21-7) and Brian Hough (21-7).

The only reply for Kingswood came from Mike Forster who won his contest 21-13.

Halton RBL ‘A’ moved into second place after a superb 152-117 victory over newlypromo­ted Egerton Memorial.

Tom McGuffie (21-10) and Jimmy Peers (21-12) impressed for the Legion.

Helsby ‘C’ are third, this despite a 154-136 loss against their colleagues from the ‘A’ team.

Subscripti­on head Section Two after a 156-103 victory over a depleted Norton Arms ‘B’ team.

Leading the way for Subs was John Owen who triumped 21-3. The best reply for Norton came from Neil Scott (21-9).

Overton moved up into second place just five chalks behind the leaders, this after a 154-117 win over War Memorial.

Starring for Overton were Harry Craig (21-2) and Mark Gilsom (21-8) while the best replies for War Memorial were recorded by Mike Couzens and Dennis Sharp who both won their matches 21-15.

Despite their 144-128 loss at Helsby ‘D’, Willow Brook remain in third place. The best winner on the night was Callum Keating who was victorious 21-6 in his game.

Section Three leaders Egerton travelled to take on Rock Park and came away with a superb 159-98 victory.

Leading the way for Egerton were Pat Cooney (21-5), Jimmy Burns (21-7) and Matthew Dutton (21-9). Christine Wood’s 21-12 success was the Park’s best response.

Manley advanced into second spot after a 151-104 win over Helsby ‘B’.

Linda Hough (21-2), Derek Thompson (21-3) and Barry Ellis (21-6) were in form for the winners. Margaret Robotham had Helsby’s best reply winning 21-11.

Third in Section Three are Goshawk, this after a hardfought 144-132 victory over the ladies from Pavilions ‘C’.

The best win on the night for Goshawk came from Barbara Barlow who won 21-9 while the best reply for Pavilions was registered by Eunice Watson who also won by the same scoreline. ● Tonight (Thursday) sees the first round of the Murphy Cup.
