Murphy’s win seals the crown

-

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division One, Halton Stadium at home to the Wellington won the Mill Brow SC RTB League title.

The contest actually started well for the Wellington as Barry Highfield took the opening game.

And despite Alan Clark and Eddie Dootson putting the Stadium ahead in the match at 2-1, during the pairs, victories for Ste Whitfield & Karl Whitfield, Paul Murty & John Lewis and John Glover & Anthony Hall put the Wellington on the verge of a much-needed two points in the title race.

The Stadium, however, struck back. John Bowles with a 13 dart display closed the gap and John Kilkenny put the match all level at 4-4 to leave the two contenders for the crown needing the final game.

A 19 dart display from Kenny Murphy took the match for the Stadium and – more significantly – the league title.

Mill Brow SC at home to Simms Cross Institute, took two vital points to move further from the relegation zone and at the same time leaving the Stute on the brink of the drop.

Eric Peel secured the opening game for the Brow, only to see Andy Abbot cancel it out.

But the Brow responded through Alan Friar and in the pairs Dave Powell & Brian Spruce and Chris Bright & Alan Friar to close in on victory.

Andy Abbott & Paul Batty staved off defeat but not for long as Dave Powell and Carl Hackney put the result beyond the Stute’s reach. It was of no consolation as Dave Evans took the last game for them.
