H’ton Simms Cross 70

Pilkingtons 26 SIMMIES were playing their first game for three weeks and it turned into a tremendous display of fast-flowing open rugby.

The home side opened the scoring with a solo try from Danny Price who also added the conversion. Soon after, prop Owen Bebbington powered his way over for a try which Price again converted.

Pilks hit back when ex-Simmies player Gavin Conroy scored two long-distance tries to reduce the score to 12-8.

Simmies came back strongly and Stephen McDermott scored a great try, again converted by Price.

Next on the scoresheet was prop Mike Randall, Price once more tacking on the extras.

Just before half-time, great handling among the threequarters resulted in Callum Hayes scoring a try in the corner to make the interval score 28-8.

Straight from the kick-off, Simmies scored a try through Stephen McDermott after brilliant handling which was converted again by Price. The next try was a superb solo effort from Conor Henry after he received the ball 60 yards out. He outpaced the Pilks’ defence to score the try of the match which was again converted by Price.

Once again, terrific handling at speed among the backs put Hayes over in the corner.

Pilks came back briefly and Adamson scored a try converted by Wilson.

Simmies were in no mood to let Pilks back into the game and soon after, Kris Kavanagh scored a fine try wide out. Price then scored his second try which he converted. Then Shaun McDermott finished off a fine handling move under the posts.

This time, David Jones kicked the conversion.

Pilks then scored two tries from Fenney and Williams plus two goals from Wilson.

Simmies finished off the scoring with a pair of tries from Brendan Kavanagh and Randall. Randall and Jones each added another goal to make the final score 70-26 in a great all-round team performance.

The Riverside Reclaim Timber man-of-thematch honour was won by hooker Stephen McDermott.
