Red-themed fun for BHF

-

THE British Heart Foundation (BHF) is calling on Halton residents to join the fight against heart disease by wearing red and hosting a red-themed fundraising event.

Around 332,000 people are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease in the North West.

The charity wants Halton people to sign up to Wear it. Beat it. on Friday, June 9, to fund life-saving research.

Residents will be able to don their red garments and join the fun across the UK by organising a red-themed fundraising event.

The BHF’S head of mass participation, Adrian Adams, said: “We are calling on the people of the North West to help us make Wear it. Beat it. the biggest, reddest and best year yet. By joining thousands of people in wearing red and hosting a red-themed fundraising event, you will help us fund more pioneering research to support the seven million people living with heart and circulatory disease in the UK.”

Last year more than 15,000 people took part in the event, raising more than £750,000.

The BHF is calling for even more people to participate this year and help raise in excess of £1m for the charity’s heart research. ●

The BHF is helping to end the devastation caused by heart disease by funding around £100m of cutting-edge research each year.

In the North West alone, the charity funds around £19m of research into projects at Lancaster University, Liverpool University, Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester University.

It includes Dr Adam Greenstein’s study into how obesity damages blood vessels.

There are currently no drugs that specifically treat obesityinduced heart disease, so the research could help find a way of repairing obesity-related damage to blood vessels. ● For a free fundraising kit call 0300 330 0645 or visit wearitbeatit.bhf.org.uk
