Goldmine shine bright with five-win surge to defeat Mersey Hotel

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division One, the Corpy Club at home to Mill Brow SC took the first game through Neil Platt.

Dave Powell then levelled for the Brow, and a win from Brian Spruce (14 darts) added to their tally. The Corpy came back to level with a win from their opening pair, Mike Ruane & Neil Platt.

The Brow surged ahead with three in a row from Ray Linger & Carl Hackney, Chris Bright & Kevin Helps and Chris Bright ensuring their match success.

Mike Ruane (11 darts) took the penultimat­e game for the Corpy, whilst Kevin Helps gave the Mill Brow SC the final contest sealing a 6-3 triumph.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Millfield conceded the first two games to the visitors’ Alan Sutton and Mike Howard.

The Bowler came back to level the encounter through Scott Grady (10 darts) and Scott Grady & Joe Batty.

The Millfield rallied, taking the next three games as Roy Jerram & Mike Howard (14 darts), Chris Taylor & Alan Sutton (19 darts) and Jamie Donegan were all successful ensuring their team’s success in the match.

The Bowler then took the penultimat­e game through Joe Batty (16 darts) before Ian Wall (16 darts) added the final clash to the Millfield’s alreadywin­ning tally.

In Division Two, Widnes Cricket Club at home to the Cricketers Arms conceded the first game to Leggie’s Brian Mercer.

The Cricket Club responded superbly with four in a row through Dan Mellor, Dean Morris, Dean Morris & Rob Morris and Andy Atkin & Ernie Griffiths.

Leggies recovered a point as Brian Dwyer & Graham Fenney were successful but the Cricket Club were on a roll as they took a further two games and the match through Billy Cain and Ste Heesom.

In what was merely a consolatio­n, the Cricketers Arms took the final game through Jimmy Rawlinson.

The Mersey Hotel at home to the Goldmine claimed the first game through Rob Cotty.

Sean Bell levelled for the Goldmine before teammate John Taylor added a further win.

Parity was restored with a win from Rob Cotty & Paul Cotty. However that was as good as it got for them as the Goldmine rallied, taking the remaining five games and the match through Barry Noonan & Roy O’Connor, Sean Bell & Phil Corless, Roy O’Connor, Phil Corless and Barry Noonan.
