Bogus tradesmen targeting residents

-

BOGUS tradesmen have targeted Widnes with one elderly resident quoted thousands for building work.

A Cheshire police alert sent out by PCSO Stephen Marnick from Widnes Local Policing Unit said information has been received for the Ditton area of ‘so-called’ builders calling to addresses asking if any home improvements need doing.

These include driveways, gutters, and fascias.

The alert said one resident who is elderly, lives with dementia and is frail have been quoted £2,500.

The alert said: “They reportedly started the work and are due to return where we will hopefully be able to meet them.

“Please do not enter into any arrangements with persons such as this.

“If you have a visit from the likes of these ● callers please politely but sternly refuse any contact now or in the future.

“Do not enter into any conversations but close the door and phone us straight away on 101.

“Try and obtain any useful information such as the vehicle number plates, accents, clothing descriptions etc.

“There is no reason to feel embarrassed – just let us know so we can hopefully stop this happening to others.”

Residents who have had a visit from these people previously are encouraged to call Cheshire police on 101.
