Pupils triumph in Crucial Crew event
● A RUNCORN school triumphed at Halton’s Crucial Crew event organised by the local authority’s road safety team.
St Mary’s Primary’s youngsters were presented with the Crucial Crew Shield and a rugby ball signed by Widnes Vikings after winning a contest.
They also received two sports sessions from Halton Council’s sports development team.
The youngsters, from around Castlefields and Halton Village, impressed with their enthusiasm and ability to learn.
The annual Crucial Crew event provided eight scenarios presented by partners from Cheshire fire service, Cheshire police, Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Halton’s children’s safeguarding board, Scottish Power and the borough’s health improvement team.
Pupils who took part learned about how to stay safe online, on the roads, with picking healthy foods eat, electrics at home, and also first aid.
A council spokesman said the important life lessons were given in a fun way after exercises around the artificial I-pitch.
Michelle Simpson, the local authority’s road safety officer, said: “This is a fantastic achievement – to come first out of 48 schools.
“The children’s behaviour was exemplary and they stood out from the 1,500 pupils that attended the event.”
