‘Snowdon’s Village’ is base for walkers

The group turned then towards Llanberis village.

The C walk a more moderate route which took in lower level paths of the area covering nine-and-a-half miles and a 1,600ft ascent.

Led by Marj Halliday the group walked by Llyn Padarn to join paths through woodland to Dolbadarn Castle, a 13th century fortress built by Llywelyn The Great which is now a Grade One listed building and famously painted by JW Turner and Richard Wilson.

Through the woodland to meet the Llanberis Path where they turned to visit the waterfalls above the village.

The group then took paths to Bwlch y Groes and around the disused quarries before their return journey.

It was a steep descent down the hillside before meeting a small country lane and paths back to the village.

Richard Cage had planned a six mile walk for his group taking in Dolbadarn Castle then up to through woodland and to Ceunant Mawr – or Great Gorge – waterfall.

Although not very high these falls are claimed to be one of the most impressive waterfalls in North Wales.

Heading north west the group took country lanes and paths before descending to the path alongside Llyn Padarn which they followed back into Llanberis.

A Ramblers spokeswoma­n said: “All walkers arrived back safely although some tired and stiff, the weather was glorious as were the views, the walkers gathered together for some well earned refreshmen­t before their return trip home.”

The group’s next outing is to Grassmere in Cumbria.
