Help your kids learn to love reading

-

EVENTS will be held at libraries across Halton as part of Bookstart Week.

The initiative is BookTrust’s annual event celebrating the joys and benefits of sharing books, stories and rhymes with children from an early age.

Halton Lea Library in Runcorn will host a session on Thursday, June 8, from 11am to 11.45am while Widnes Library will hold an event at the same times the next day.

A Halton Borough Council spokesman said: “Reading together every day – even for just 10 minutes – can be lots of fun and can significantly help with a child’s development.

“Each year, we choose a theme that gets families involved in fun, themed events across the country at libraries, children’s centres, bookshops and other settings, where they can share fantastic free books and activities with their babies and young children.

“This year’s National Bookstart Week is extra special as BookTrust is celebrating 25 years of it’s flagship programme.

“The fledgling Bookstart programme gifted books to 300 babies in Birmingham in 1992.

“Today, Bookstart provides free books and resources for every baby and preschooler in England and Wales through its partnerships with local authorities, along with free packs for children with additional needs and languages.” ●
