Delight for Greens in the derby

Widnes St Marie’s 12 HFH U11 Greens 26 HFH U11s Greens got the better of Widnes St Marie’s in their derby encounter 26-12.

There were tries for Eamonn Slavin, Luke Lamey and for the second game in a row the man-of-the-match honour went to Sam Fitzsimon for a fabulous hat-trick.

Goals were knocked over by Luke Lamey, Sam Gallagher and Charlie Shone while top tackler for the Greens was Luke Lamey.

This was a great team performanc­e by Hornets in this derby showdown. Woolston U9 5 HFH U9 Reds 5 THE final scoreline was a fair result for both sides in what was a very tight encounter between these two U9 outfits.

Hornets opened the scoring through Zak Bennett before top tackler Jacob Fitzsimon went over for the first of his three tries.

There was a great debut for coaches’ award winner Keigan Highfield and another standout performanc­e from man-of-the-match Charlie Fallon. Woolston U7 13 HFH U7 Greens 3 GREENS travelled to Woolston and from the first minute were put under pressure from a well-drilled Woolston side who demonstrat­ed a good defensive line which Hornets found hard to break.

Woolston took an early lead with three quick tries before Greens responded with a powerful drive to the line from Luke Holland.

Greens tackled hard but some slick handling by the home side proved difficult to contain and Woolston increased their lead before a strongrunn­ing Jackson Riley scored in the corner.

Outstandin­g work from Luke Holland earned him his second try and a well-deserved coaches’ award with teammate Jackson Riley taking the top tackler trophy.

The man-of-the-match award was shared by Niall Dooley and Oliver Reddington.
