Lions roar on at the summit as they prove too powerful for Kingsley

ON the league front in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n last week, bottom team Kingsley ‘A’ took on Section One leaders Pavilions ‘A’ with the Sandy Lane outfit running out the winners 153-102.

Leading the way for the Lions were Chris Price (21-5), Simon Jones (21-7) and captain Neal Ocego (21-8).

Gary Greenhagh’s 21-6 success was the best reply for Kingsley.

Tigers Head moved into second place after a 163-120 victory at Halton RBL ‘A’.

Kevin Duncalf and Jason Cornes (both 21-8) impressed for the Tigers. Replying for the Legion were Bill Steel (21-17) and Tom McGuffie (21-20).

Third-placed Kingswood ‘A’ travelled to take on Egerton Memorial and came away with a hard-fought victory 139-133. The best winner on the night was Glynn Jacks who triumphed 21-9.

Section Two pacesetter­s Subscripti­on took on Overton and were victorious 155-123.

David Walker (21-7) and Don Bryning (21-9) were the best winners for the leaders while Harry Craig’s 21-14 was the best reply for Overton.

Norton Arms ‘B’ made up ground on the table-toppers after a superb 164-110 victory over Pavilions ‘D’.

Leading the way for the Arms were Marcus Solonecki (21-7) and Neil Scott (21-8).

The best replies for Pavilions came from Dave Stooks and Maurice Melvin who both won 21-19.

Kingswood ‘B’ in third place have a game in hand on both teams above them and continued with their fine form after a 157-87 win against War Memorial.

No fewer than four players won to single figures – Vince Bunnell and Paul Ecclestone (both 21-2), Dave Ryan (21-3) and Graham Donnelly (21-9).

Dave Brown’s 21-13 was the best reply for War Memorial.

Pavilions ‘B’ also have a game in hand on the top two and are just 19 chalks behind third-placed Kingswood, this after a 146-113 win over Kingsley ‘B’.

Stephen Bate and skipper Mick Ainsworth (both 21-8) caught the eye for Pavilions.

Kingsley’s best response came via Denise Roberts who also won 21-8.

Section Three table-toppers Halton RBL ‘B’ travelled to take on Frodsham Cons and recorded a 144-118 victory.

Mike Ellison’s 21-7 was the best winner for the Legion.

The best reply for the Cons was registered by Margaret Garner’s 21-9 success.

Second-placed Castle Park travelled to take on Manley in third, the home side running out the winners 144-122.

Barry Ellis (21-7) and Gary Spenser (21-8) shone for Manley but the best winner on the night was Castle Park’s Lorna McGibbon who won 21-3.

Manley, however, do have a game in hand on the top two.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Goshawk took on Crowton in fifth and were victorious 153-99.

Four Goshawk players won to single figures – Jean and Tony Harley (both 21-4), Tony Galley (21-8) and Peter Robinson (21-9).

The best reply for Crowton was recorded by Peter Winnington who won his contest 21-6.
