Hornets triumph in the heat

Rylands U13 18

HFH U13 24 HORNETS’ U13s outfit travelled to to take on their counterparts from Rylands and were made to battle hard in the heat before emerging victorious.

Halton started the game really well and were on the attack from the off.

After going close down the left, the ball was quickly moved to the right and Ben Lane did the rest beating a couple of defenders to score.

Nathan Bannerman, after going close earlier, then scored down the left as the Rylands defence could not hold him as his footwork and strength got him over the line.

The next score was more direct as man-ofthe-match Adam Holroyd ran a great line to power through after combining with Adam Jack to score under the posts.

Credit must go to Rylands as they hit back, scooting over from the play the ball to make it 16-6 at half-time.

The second half started well with Lane scoring his second try from 50 metres out after hitting a good line to slice through and beat the opposition full-back.

Hornets found themselves on the back foot for the next 10 minutes and conceded two converted tries to bring Rylands within two points.

All credit to the Hornets players, though, as they picked their game up and after going close on a couple of occasions they found space to send Joe Riley diving in at the corner to make the final score 24-18 with five tries and two conversions from Charlie Glover.
