AGROUP of patients at Halton Haven Hospice have been hard at work over the past few months creating a World War Two-era diorama.

The large and detailed piece was put together by those using the day hospice service at the hospice on Barnfield Avenue in Runcorn.

It features model planes from the era which have been built from a kit, hand painted, and some suspended over the diorama of an airfield.

In addition there are aircraft hangars, vehicles, figures, natural ● features, fencing and a landscape backdrop, all of which have been assembled and created by day hospice patients, volunteers and staff.

Day hospice driver Ste Parry has been instrumental in bringing the piece to life, assisting the patients and encouraging their involvement from start to finish.

The service at Halton Haven Hospice is for people from Halton and surrounding areas who are living with terminal conditions.

They can spend the day at the hospice and see the multi-disciplinary team for consultations, symptom control, medication checks, complimentary therapies or physiotherapy.

Halton Haven operations manager, Karen Eden, said: “It has been a joy watching everyone contribute to the diorama in however small a way.

“The project has provided much reminiscence about days gone by and cemented friendships as creating things does.

“The finished diorama will move into hospice reception to be on display for a while, whilst the day hospice patients are chomping at the bit to begin their next project.”

The building of the diorama has involved Steve Webb Models in Frodsham and Widnes Model Centre both donating Airfix kits, paints, brushes and other items.
