Pavilions find their ‘A’ game again to earn full house win over Helsby

SECTION One leaders Pavilions ‘A’ bounced back after their defeat at Kingswood with a full house 168-83 victory against Helsby ‘A’ last week in the latest action in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n.

Leading from the front with a captain’s performanc­e was Neal Ocego who won 21-4.

There were also excellent contributi­ons from teammates Pat Crowe (21-5), Mark Furber (21-8) and Chris Price (21-9).

Second-placed Grapes travelled to take on Halton Legion but returned home disappoint­ed after a 136-135 loss in a very tightly-fought encounter. Alan Griffiths (21-5) led the way for Legion with Ryan Dobson’s 21-7 success the best reply for Grapes.

Hazel Pear in third made up ground on Grapes after a superb 162-118 win at Kingsley.

Kevin Hanwell (21-10) impressed for the Pear.

Dave Ewart’s 21-16 success was the best reply for Kingsley.

Fourth-placed Tigers Head continued with their fine form with a full house 168-90 victory over Helsby ‘C’.

Gerald Merry (21-4), Peter Illidge (21-6) and Barry Ellams (21-7) caught the eye for Tigers.

Section Two pacesetter­s Pavilions ‘B’ visited Willow Brook and claimed a fine 150-137 victory.

Skipper Mick Ainsworth provided a 21-8 victory for the Lions while Dennis Robinson’s 21-9 was the best reply for the Brook.

Subscripti­on in second spot enjoyed a fantastic 163-82 win at Helsby ‘D’ with no fewer than five players winning to single figures.

Dennis Rigby (21-3), Ernie Horrabin (21-5), George Smart and Don Bryning (both 21-8) and Bill Whitby (21-9) were all in sparkling form.

Margaret Keating’s 21-16 win was the only reply for Helsby.

Third-placed Overton lost ground on the leaders after a 148-128 defeat at Pavilions ‘D’.

The best win on the night went to Pavilions’ Ken Burton who triumphed 21-9.

Corporatio­n in fourth secured a terrific 160-120 win against War Memorial.

Kevin Marsh (21-4), Keith Taylor and Derek Mellor (both 21-12) led the way for the Widnes outfit.

The best reply for War Memorial was recorded by Mike Couzens who won 21-15.

The top game in Section Three saw table-topping Halton RBL ‘B’ visit second placed Grapes ‘B’.

And it was the Grapes who took the spoils 152-119 moving them into top spot.

Tim McGloughli­n (21-6) and Dennis Bazley (21-9) led the way for Grapes with Mike Ellison and Steve Mercer (both 21-13) replying for Legion.

Egerton in third made up ground with a 159-135 victory over Crowton.

Pat Cooney’s 21-12 success was the best win on the night.

In the battle of the Parks it was Castle that took the victory over the Rock in close encounter 139-132.

Pete Snelson’s 21-8 victory led the way for Castle while replying for Rock were Lynn Light (21-3) and Anne Whitby (21-9).

Manley are fifth but have two games in hand on the teams above them. ● Last week saw the semifinals of the P&A Morgan Cup Through the final on August 3 are Kingswood ‘A’ and Manley with Subscripti­on BC to play host to the clash. ● Tonight sees the final of the Section Three Merit being held at War Memorial – 6.45pm scratch for a 7pm start.
