Norman signs a short loan deal with the Lions

-

DAN NORMAN has signed on loan with Swinton Lions until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old back-row recently signed his first full-time contract with Widnes, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Phil Finney, Widnes Vikings’ head of youth performance, said: “This loan is a great move for Dan, Widnes Vikings and Swinton Lions.

“He will benefit from training in a first-team environment and competing for a place in the Swinton Lions team.

“This experience should help ready him for the challenge of becoming a first-team player at Widnes Vikings in the future.” ● VIKINGS stars Lloyd White and Gil Dudson have been named in Wales’s provisional 38-man squad for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. With less than 100 days until the tournament gets underway Down Under, the Vikings first-team members, who have been at the club since 2012 and 2015 respectively, were announced in John Kear’s provisional squad last week. ● WIGAN and Hull will make history by taking a Super League game to Australia next year.

The Warriors, who are the reigning champions, and Hull will play each other in Wollongong, Sydney, on Saturday, February 10.

The ground-breaking match will be one game into the 2018 Super League season and become the first league fixture to be held outside Europe.

The clubs will also play games against South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons as part of their three-match tour.

They will return to the UK to take part in the World Club Challenge or Series, starting on February 24, if either side qualifies.

Shaun Wane’s side have played in Australia before, losing 36-14 to Sydney Roosters in the 2014 World Club Challenge.

“We firmly believe that the Wigan and Hull fans will be as excited about this venture as we are and we have announced early to allow fans the chance to plan their trip to Australia,” Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan said.

Hull counterpart, Adam Pearson, added: “There will be a great deal of excitement from fans of both clubs and we’re sure many will want to travel to New South Wales for such an historic occasion, support their team and help showcase all that is good about rugby league in the UK.”
