Studio sessions to boost unemployed’s creativity
A16- WEEK- COURSE is being launched this September at The Studio in Widnes to give unemployed residents a chance to flex their creative muscles.
The free ‘ You Can 2’ project is for anyone over 16 years of age and not in education or work and will give them the chance to learn to play an instrument, record and perform music or make films.
They will also be able to take part in producing Halton Community Radio’s The Radio Show, which was created by The Studio’s project manager and actor and director Louise Nulty.
Each monthly two-hour show will also include a 10-minute episode of a Very Strange Play.
Louise said: “The shows will reflect the creativity of people in Halton.
“Contributions could include recording interviews with local artists, selecting music, presenting the show at Halton Community Radio station, or creating jingles and sound effects.
“This project will be ongoing and Louise would like to hear from anyone interested in writing, acting, and working on the Radio Show additional to the You Can 2 participants.”
Jaki Florek, of Loose Music Collective, said: “Working creatively, you are constantly identifying problems and finding solutions, and working as part of a team to get a job done helps improve planning and communication abilities.
“You get so involved in what you are doing you don’t realise that you are also developing very valuable life skills, and transferable skills.
“Building skills and confidence and reducing isolation can help people move closer to gaining employment, or accessing further education or training or volunteering, and importantly can also help improve people’s quality of life, health and wellbeing.
“Get more out of because You Can 2!”
This course is funded by the EU Social Fund via the Workers Education Association. Places are limited. For more information call Louise on 07930 388 844 or email info@thestudiowidnes.org.uk life,
