TRAVEL DISCRIMINATION

- James Owen Murdishaw

ABOUT the discrimination of the Women born after 1953, and unfortunately living in the Liverpool City Region of Halton.

Women living in Halton born after 1953 are not just penalised by the Conservative Government as to the extension of their working life, but are now being penalised by a Labour administration in Merseyside over travel concessions.

The Conservative Government broke the Government’s contract with these women which was made, for some, starting in 1968 and then throughout their working life time.

The contract out of the Blue being shattered into pieces with some mumbling about ‘we have got to save money from somewhere’.

What an easy target – you could not miss blindfolded with one hand behind your back.

I support all the women affected, but do release thosewith fat civil service ‘early doors’ pensions (Conservative and Labour) will only smile at my efforts to help the bottom shelf.

Halton Borough Council has renewed the travel concessionary contract with Cheshire after becoming part of Merseyside to the determent of these women.

The contract does not give access to the Merseyside over 60s travel card, which is available to all women of 60 and over in the other five regions.

Now if you live in London, mayor of London Boris Johnson (Conservative and now in the cabinet) in 2012 announced that women will get their travel pass at 60, no matter what their pension rights are.

If you live in Wales and are aged 60 or over you are entitled to free travel within Wales. It could hold a cost in excess of £50,000 for a woman of Halton on the fringe of this mess.

At least with free travel £6,000 could be trimmed off. Am I missing the point about Socialism?
