Two rescued from pod fire

-

TWO burns casualties were rescued by members of the public then taken to hospital by ambulance after a blaze inside a camping pod at Lady Heyes campsite near Frodsham.

Fire crews from Runcorn, Widnes and Lymm descended on the site at 11.35pm on Saturday, September 23.

The cause has now been confirmed to be accidental.

A Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service spokesman said wet clothes had been left too close to a log burner to dry and had then ignited.

A 20-year-old woman and a 24-yearold man were taken to Whiston Hospital with burns, North West Ambulance Service said.

Two rapid response paramedic vehicles and two ambulances responded to the incident.

Lady Heyes caravan and campsite is near the tea room and antiques shop of the same name on Kingsley Road on Kingsley on Frodsham’s outskirts.

The fire service spokesman said: “Firefighters, two wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“Two people who were inside the pod were rescued by members of the public prior to the arrival of the fire crews.

“One male, suffering from smoke inhalation, and one female, suffering from burns, were taken to hospital by paramedics.

“Crews were at the scene for one hour and 50 minutes.

“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”
