Halton’s talented Tadpoles clock great times and claim medals at galas

THE COLSC Tadpoles took place at Everton Park Sports Centre over the past two weekends and yet again Halton’s younger swimmers brought home numerous medals and some fantastic new personal best times.

Twelve-year-old Leah Galligan had a fantastic meet collecting a gold medal in the 50m backstroke along with silvers in the 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly and the 200m freestyle. Bronze medals came in the 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley. Leah also finished just outside the medals in the 200m backstroke touching home in fourth place.

These results ensured Leah finished in third place in the FINA points standings.

Nine-year-old Sam Hyland took part in the Tadpoles for the first time and performed brilliantl­y maintainin­g his recent good progress.

Sam won gold in the 50m breaststro­ke, 50m butterfly and the 100m individual medley. A silver medal came in the 200m breaststro­ke and he claimed a bronze in the 200m freestyle.

These fantastic results helped Sam finish in second place in the FINA points table.

Ten-year-old Ruby Pritchard took part in five events and finished with one silver medal, two bronze and two fourth places. Second place came in the 200m individual medley and the two third place finishes were registered in the 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

She was also just outside the medals in the 50m backstroke and 200m breaststro­ke finishing in fourth place in both events.

These results helped Ruby finish in third place in the FINA points standings.

Eleven-year-old Sam Shurie took part in seven events and came away from the meet with a fine gold medal in the 50m backstroke. Sam’s hard work in training meant he finished with a tremendous six new personal best times out of the seven events.

Isabelle Bullen, Cerys Neil, Rachel Lane, Ellenore Whitfield, Hannah Forsyth, Natasha Molyneux and Alexander Pengelley-Jones gained valuable experience in a very competitiv­e gala and all swam very well.

Nine-year-old Isabelle Bullen achieved two new personal best times in the 50m ● backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Another nine-year-old, Cerys Neil, achieved a new personal best time in the 100m individual medley and 10-yearold Rachel Lane posted a new personal best in the 50m breaststro­ke.
