Success in first gala for Halton

WITH the swimming season underway, Halton Swimming Club were in action at Huyton Leisure Centre.

In the first round of the Merseyside & District Division One, Halton were up against Everton, Garston, Liverpool Penguins and Prescot swimming clubs in what turned out to be an extremely competitiv­e gala.

Halton were looking to get off to a good start in the league and were keen to cement first place going into the second round – and they began well winning three of the first four relay races.

With solid relay team performanc­es throughout and a number of fine individual swims, Halton went into the last two cannon relays in first place.

Two fantastic displays by the girls’ and boys’ teams saw them finish in first place in both races thus cementing their position at the top of the leaderboar­d after one gala.

Halton finished 33 points ahead of Everton in second with Garston a further six points behind.

There were a number of good performanc­es with the team finishing with 20 first place finishes and seven runners-up spots.

The standout solo performanc­es went to Sophie Buckley, Ben Clayton, Leah Galligan, Beth Howard-Hughes, Sam Hyland, Elliot Griffiths-Moore, Josh Howard-Hughes and Daniel Buckley who amassed a total of 11 first place finishes between them.
