-

ON Monday night, in the Widnes & District Darts League, round two of the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League took place.

Millfield against Hammer & Pincers took the lead through Ronnie Greylish. However, the Hammer replied with their first league point via Dave Bolam as he held firm to take the third and deciding leg.

At this stage the Milly took over as they dominated the match. Keith Horabin, followed by pairs Ray Dutton & Brian Dutton, Chris Taylor & Ian Wall and Mike Howard & Dave Jones all won in two straight legs.

Back into the singles, the Milly continued to dominate as Adam Mellor and Billy Fox were victorious before teammate Brian Dutton gave a 16 dart display followed by a 17 darter to end the match in style for his side.

Simms Cross Institute against Halton Stadium had a tough start as the Stadium took the opening round of singles.

Alan Magee started the onslaught with two 19 dart displays, which was backed up by Eddie Dootson who came from a leg down to win before Joe Kelly with two legs in a row finishing with a 19 darter, made it 3-0.

In the pairs, Andy Abbott & Tony Green got the Stute up and running without conceding a leg of darts, but the Stadium struck back with straight leg wins via Alan Magee & John Bowles and Eddie Dootson & Kev Garcia which sealed the match.

Returning to the singles, John Killkenny added to the Stadium’s tally before Paul Batty secured a second game for the Stute. But it was the Stadium’s night as John Bowles with a second leg in 17 darts finished off their win.

Wellington playing host to Goldmine fell behind to a strong opening game from Karl Windisch. And despite Scott Devany taking a leg with the help of a 180, it was Chris Hough who secured the second game for the Goldmine.

Anthony Hall in 18 and 21 darts opened the Wellington’s account with a win in two straight legs, but Karl Windisch & Chris Hough responded to keep the Goldmine in control which included a 19 darter.

Ste Whitfield & Karl Whitfield combined to keep the Wellington’s hopes alive, but Sean Bell & Terry Roach with the help of a 19 dart leg put the Goldmine on the brink of victory which they duly achieved, Jack Slater and James Holden later wrapping up a great 7-2 win for the visitors.

At Widnes Bowling Club, the visitors Mill Brow SC started with a fine two straight legs win from Kevin Helps.

They looked to be making it two in a row as Dave Stevenson took his opening leg in 19 darts. But Scott Grady put the pressure straight back on as he checked out in 18 and went on to take the decider in 22 darts. Tex Bowles put the Bowler in front for the first time in the encounter, taking the second leg of darts with the help of a 180.

In the pairs, each contest went to the decider in the best of three.

Scott Byrne & Alex McGill and Tommy Robertson & Dave Pickles put the Bowler on the brink of winning the match before Paul Linger & Brian Spruce wrestled a point back.

In the singles Paul Linger gave the Brow a bit of hope of turning the match around with a two leg win, which was backed up by teammate Dave Powell with an opening 19 dart leg and a game clincher in a deciding third leg.

With all resting on the final showdown of the night, the Brow’s luck ran out as Scott Byrne stuck to the task in hand to take a two straight leg win to secure his own personal game and the match for the Widnes Bowling Club by a final score of 5-4.
