Victim held at knifepoint in alleyway
Second armed robbery attempt at the same location during the past month:
AGANG of youths tried to rob an elderly man at knife point in Runcorn say police.
Detectives have appealed for information after the 71-year-old was walking along Main Street in Halton Village at 5.20pm on Monday, November 6, and was approached as he reached the junction with Pump Lane and subjected to the mugging attempt.
The victim was not injured but left shaken by the incident.
A Cheshire police spokeswoman said the first suspect was described as white, about 20 years old, about 5ft 10ins tall, and of slim build.
He spoke with a ‘local Runcorn’ accent.
A second suspect, who had the knife was described as white, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, and of heavy build.
He was about 20 years old and spoke with a Runcorn accent.
The third robber was white, approximately 20 years old, and of skinny build with longer dark hair.
Detective Constable David Wood said: “The gentleman didn’t suffer any serious injury but was shaken by the incident.
“It’s believed that a motorist may have startled the robbers when they turned off Main Street and onto Pump Lane and illuminated the offenders with their car headlights.
“The men then ran off down the alleyway which leads to St Mary’s School on the Castlefields estate.
“I am particularly keen to speak with the driver who may have vital information that could help with my enquiries.”
The same alleyway was the scene of a robbery on September 27 when a duo wielding a baseball bat and a knife took a man’s wallet.
