Looker’s vision key to victory

-

Neston IV 2 Runcorn I 4 AFTER coming off a resounding win at home against Bowdon, Runcorn Hockey Club’s men’s first-team took to the road on the final Saturday of October where they were due to play cellar-dwellers Neston fourths.

With several players missing, Runcorn still felt confident of gaining their first points away from The Heath School.

But it was the home side who struck first and Runcorn struggled to get into their usual coherent hockey. ●

However, as half-time approached they drew level.

After an overlapping run, right-back Andy Partridge found himself in the penalty circle and fired the ball home.

As the second half started, Runcorn came flying out of the proverbial blocks and completely took control of the contest.

They scored three goals in a devastating five-minute period.

It began with a goal from returning forward Pete Jones, followed by one from acting captain Scott Crimes and then a rare effort from midfielder Allan Watt.

Neston pushed forward chasing the game but Runcorn kept their shape well and only allowed a consolation goal in the last five minutes of the encounter.

Man-of-the-match honours went to holding midfielder Gary Looker for another positive performance dictating play throughout and pushing Runcorn forward to claim the three welcome points.
