Armed thugs rob victim, 68

-

THREE young thugs robbed a pensioner of his car at knifepoint in Runcorn.

Cheshire police said the victim, 68, had been walking back to his house having parked his car at the junction of Halton Brook Avenue and Cotterill in Halton Brook when he saw three men heading over the footbridge from Halton Lodge at around 1.55-2.05pm on Tuesday.

When he had left home again and was returning to his car, he reached a grassy area and felt an arm around his neck, pulling him to the ground.

One man pinned him down while the others grabbed his wallet, phone and car keys.

During the incident, one of the robbers brandished a knife and shouted ‘ Give me the keys, give me the keys’.

The thugs then drove off in the victim’s car in an unknown direction.

A Cheshire police spokeswoman said it was later found abandoned on Hankey Street, Dukesfield.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

All three suspects were described as wearing dark tracksuits and aged between 16 and 18 years old.

One of them was about 5ft 7ins in height with a thin and gaunt face and wearing a dark hat.

Detective Constable Nathanial Walkowiak, of Runcorn CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and nasty attack on a man who was simply going about his daily business.

“It’s important we trace these three men and I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to come forward and call 101.”

Anyone who has any information that could help in catching the crooks should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident 448 of February 27.
