March on into a month of great games

-

WHILE January lasted longer than a DFS sale, February seems to have vanished quicker than that first glass of wine on a Friday night. And thank the gaming gods, for as well as (hopefully) bringing some warmer spring weather – March also heralds the arrival of some lovely new titles.

There’s high seas shenanigans with Sea of Thieves, a dangerous new enemy to face in Far Cry 5 and the adorable C64 mini arrives to thrill gamers ‘of a certain age’. BATTLEFIELD 1: APOCALYPSE PS4, XBOX ONE, PC RELEASE: March 6 IT’S hard to find a more harrowingly realistic portrayal of war than Battlefield 1.

Despite what its name suggests, the 2016 release is actually its 15th instalment, and this month sees the arrival of its fourth and final expansion pack.

Apocalypse brings with it tons of new content including some big maps, new weapons and vehicles.

One of the biggest additions is Air Assault mode, which sees players battling for dominance of the skies behind the stick of a WWI aircraft.

On the ground, there are three new three infantry maps, including the poisoned wasteland of Passchendaele and mountainous hell of Caporetto. TT ISLE OF MAN: RIDE ON THE EDGE XBOX ONE, PC RELEASE: March 6 DEDICATED to one of the world’s most famous bike races, TT Isle Of Man: Ride On The Edge claims to bring you closer to the action than ever before.

Players can choose from a roster of 36 current riders and their bikes to tear around the 37.40 miles of unforgiving track that runs around the Isle of Man.

If the Snaefell Mountain Course proves too much for your nerves, This is as close as most of us will get to racing around the Isle of Man TT circuit then there are also a couple of fictional circuits on which to open up your throttle.

As with most simulator games, developer Maximum Games has gone all out for realism, using laser scanning technology and thousands of images taken during the 2016 and 2017 rallies.

The result is nothing short of stunning. Sea of Thieves SEA OF THIEVES XBOX ONE, PC RELEASE: March 20 SHIVER me timbers, I’ve been looking forward to this one.

Embrace your inner pirate and rule the high seas from your own little galleon in this epic-looking multiplayer adventure. Battlefield 1: Apocalypse takes players into the heart of the horrors of the First World War

Developed by Rare, this essential pirate experience promises to be packed to the seams with sailing, exploring, fighting and plundering, riddle solving and treasure hunting.

As a shared-world adventure game, as you sail around the open seas you’ll encounter other crews you can either befriend, battle against or double cross.

The main aim of the game is to become a pirate legend – a name so big you’ll eclipse even Jack Sparrow as king rapscallion. C64 MINI RELEASE: March 29 THE Commodore 64 is the latest old computer to get the miniature treatment.

At half the size of the original C64, it’s apparently a “fully functioning” system with a built-in keyboard, two USB FIFA 18 GRAND THEFT AUTO V CALL OF DUTY: WWII MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD RLD EA SPORTS UFC 3 METAL GEAR SURVIVE SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS MARIO KART 8 DELUXE SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY ASSASSIN’S CREED ORIGINS ports, and a joystick.

It also comes pre-loaded with dozens of games, including the 1984 classic Boulder Dash, Things on a Spring, Deflektor, Hunter’s Moon, and Mission Impossible 1 and 2.

Tiny, but perfectly formed, this delightful slice of nostalgia will set you back, quite appropriately, £64. Far Cry 5 FAR CRY 5 PS4, XBOX ONE PC RELEASE: March 27 THE first of the year’s really big releases, Far Cry 5 lands towards the end of the month. This highly anticipated openworld chaos shooter is set in the wilds of Montana, where a fanatical doomsday cult is about to clash horns with the law. The Far Cry series has a habit of creating charismatic villains, and with this latest outing, you get double for your money. The Seed brothers, John and Joseph are the brains behind the Eden’s Gate cult, and they’re going to be a lot of fun to take down. Back in the mist of time the Assassin’s Creed began
