Bowles right on target to secure victory for Stadium in a classic clash

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, round 18 of the Mill Brow SC RTB League in Division One took place.

The Millfield at home to Halton Stadium took the first game through Mike Howard (13 darts).

Tony Jackson then levelled for the Stadium (11 and 19 darts).

Brian Dutton (14 and 19 darts) took the Millfield ahead, only to see the Stadium’s opening pair, Joe Kelly & Eddie Dootson level the score.

A further win from Joe Price & Tony Jackson took the Stadium ahead. However, the Millfield were still right on their tails as Jamie Donegan & Ray Dutton (15 darts) levelled the score again.

A further win apiece from the Stadium’s Joe Kelly and the Millfield’s Chris Taylor (15 darts) made it 4-4.

The outcome was resolved with a win from John Bowles (14 darts) in the final game for Halton Stadium.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Goldmine took the first three games via Ged McPartland, Dave Batty and Dave Evans.

The Goldmines’s opening pair, Sean Bell & Ray O’Connor recovered a point before Tim Hunt & Adam Durbin added a further win to their tally.

The Stute responded with a win from John Leacy & Mick Cullen (12 darts).

The Goldmine were still in with a chance as Sean Bell (15 darts) took the next game.

However, their hopes were soon to be dashed as Andy Abbott and Glynn Owen took the final two games and the match for Simms Cross Institute.

The Wellington at home to Widnes Bowling Club secured the first game through Ste Whitfield.

The Bowler then levelled via Tommy Robertson.

John Barber struck back, taking the Wellington ahead. However, parity was restored with a win from the Bowler’s opening pair, Alex McGill & Alan Clark.

The Wellington took back control with two in a row from Ste Whitfield & Barry Highfield and Karl Whitfield & John Crossley (17 darts).

The Bowler rallied, taking two games via Scott Grady and Alex McGill to level the score at 4-4.

They then added a further win via Joe Batty in the final game to seal a 5-4 triumph.

Widnes Cricket Club at home to the Mill Brow SC conceded the first three games to the Brow as Kevin Helps, Eric Peel and Chris Bright were all victorious.

The Cricket Club’s opening pair, Danny Mellor & Dean Morris recovered a point, only to see the Brow’s Ray Linger & Brian Spruce take it back.

The Cricket Club took the next two games through Adam Mellor & Rob Morris (11 darts) and Billy Cain.

They had fought hard to narrow the gap, but a win from the Brow’s Jack Dunn (12 darts) in the penultimat­e game ended their hopes of match success.

Even so, the Cricket Club kept battling on and Danny Mellor took the final game but it was just a consolatio­n.
