REGISTRATIONS are open for amateur and professional photographers to take part in the Daresbury Laboratory Photowalk competition.
Organisers said the event is a rare chance to take behind-the-scenes images of some of the world’s most exciting and ground-breaking science.
Supported by the Royal Photographic Society, the Science And Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Daresbury Laboratory Photowalk will take place on May 10 and 22 at Sci-Tech Daresbury in Halton.
The contest is part of a national event and also the Global Physics Photowalk competition, which incorporates world-leading laboratories across the UK, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Daresbury’s Engineering Technology Centre is one of the areas that will be open to photographers.
A Sci-Tech Daresbury spokeswoman said highly-skilled engineers ● use the facility to build critical parts for particle accelerators around the world, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and for others still under construction.
During the photowalk, participants can take as many photos as they like and, if they wish, submit up to five entries within 10 days of the event.
Entries will be judged regionally by a professional panel, including a representative of the Royal Photographic Society.
The best 10 photographs from each participating UK site will be entered into the national competition at STFC’s other sites in the UK, and will be judged by the general public.
The winning photos will then be submitted as the UK entries for the Global Physics Photowalk competition.
Professor Susan Smith, head of Daresbury Laboratory said: “We are incredibly excited to be hosting the photowalk here at Daresbury Laboratory.
“This is a unique opportunity for photography enthusiasts to see some of the incredible and stunning science that happens right here in the North West, and to capture it from a new and exciting perspective.”
Entry to the Photowalk is free but by registration only as places are limited.
Participants can register online at https:// stfcphotowalk2018. eventbrite.co.uk.
