Suspect, 49, accused of petrol station robbery

A RUNCORN man has appeared in court in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a petrol station.

Anthony Wain, 49, of Creative Support hostel on Halton Lodge Avenue, Runcorn, was charged following an alleged incident at the BP garage on Thomas Jones Way near Bridgewate­r Expressway on Tuesday, April 17.

Court papers said Wain is accused of having tried to rob someone at the premises and was in possession of a sharply pointed bladed article, namely a ‘large kitchen knife’.

The matter was sent to Chester Crown Court to be heard on July 4.

Wain was denied bail with his custody time limit due to expire on December 5.

A police appeal was issued at the time of the alleged offence.

Residents reported seeing a cordon in place and patrol car at the time.
