ON Monday night the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued.

Hammer & Pincers at home to Halton Stadium went down to a 9-0 whitewash with Joe Price, Tony Jackson (180) and Kenny Murphy beginning the rout in the singles. This was followed by pairs Colin Rigby & John Bowles, Joe Kelly & Kenny Murphy and Tony Jackson & Ged Price. Then finally in the singles, Joe Kelly hit two 180s and a 14 dart display. This was followed by one of the best displays of the season as John Bowles took his first leg in 19 darts which included a 180 and a 101 checkout followed by a 18-darter which also included a 180 and a 112 checkout. With one to play, Colin Rigby completed a dominant performance against a plucky Hammer & Pincers side.

Mill Brow SC at home to the Goldmine conceded the first two games to the visitors’ Karl Windisch (18 and 14 darts) and Chris Hough (15 darts and 180). The Brow then recovered a point via Chris Bright. The Goldmine took the next game through Sean Bell & Terry Roach (180), and again the Brow narrowed the gap, this time through, Dave Powell & Jack Dunn. A win from Karl Windisch & Chris Hough edged the Goldmine nearer the winning post. The Brow, however, were not giving up as a late rally from Paul Linger (180) and Dave Powell (180) made the score 4-4. Mike Callaghan then stepped up to take the final game and the match for the Goldmine.

Millfield at home to the Wellington conceded the first game to the Wellington’s Ste Whitfield (18 darts). Billy Fox then levelled for the Millfield, before Brian Dutton (17 darts and 180 plus 126 finish) took them ahead. The Wellington came back to level via their opening pair, Barry Highfield & Ste Whitfield. This parity was not to last as two in a row from the Millfield’s Keith Horabin & Dave Jones and Brian Dutton & Mike Howard edged the Millfield closer to the winning line.

The Wellington were still in with a chance as Karl Whitfield took the next game. However, the Millfield rallied once more and won the last two games and the match via Alan Sutton and Mike Howard.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to Simms Cross Institute took the first game through Tommy Robertson. Dave Evans levelled for the Stute, only to see Scott Byrne take the next game, putting the Bowler ahead once more. The Stute’s opening pair, Glyn Owen & Paul Batty then levelled the score. Tony Green & Andy Abbott (98 finish) put the Stute ahead for the first time in the match. Yet again, parity was restored as Alex McGill & Mark Smith struck straight back. A further win from the Stute’s Tony Green and the Bowler’s Scott Grady made the score 4-4 leaving all resting on the final game. It was Alex McGill with a timely 17-darter who took it sealing victory for Widnes Bowling Club.
