HFH U9 24 IN an evenly-matched game which saw both teams putting in brilliant defensive displays, it was Halton Farnworth Hornets U9s who came out on top with some outstandin­g expansive attacking play against their counterpar­ts from Woolston.

Going forward, there were some strong yards gained down the middle by Kian Rose, Matthew Sinclair, Kobe MacKinnon, Matthew Brown and Kian Fahey but it was out wide were the gaps were found to enable tries to be scored.

Aiden Clarke and Joe Bebbington led the Hornets’ attack with some great passes that set up four-pointers for Ollie Jenkins, Cian Winstanley, a couple for Joe Heaney and a brace for James Prescott.

His second score was in the final few minutes of the game which saw him step and go almost the length of the field to grab the match-winning try.

In defence, every player stepped up and put in the best team defensive display of the year with Matthew Sinclair topping the tackle count and awarded the top tackler accolade.

He was pushed all the way to this honour by Joe Heaney.

It was Kian Rose who put in his best display of the season to gain the man-of-the-match award. HFH U10 Green 16 Latchford U10 28 HORNETS went down to defeat in a highlyente­rtaining encounter with Latchford.

Both teams attacked and defended with real quality in an end-to-end clash.

Hornets scored tries through Evan Milne, Nathan Percival and Tom Krause with successful conversion­s from Lewis Lunt and Ollie Reeves.

The coaches’ award went to Joe Shepard with Nathan Percival named as the Hornets’ man-of-the-match.
