Suspect remanded on gun possession charge
AWIDNES man has been remanded into custody to appear at crown court after being charged in connection with a shooting in Runcorn last week.
Sean Meadows, 29, of Oxford Street, appeared at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
He is due to appear at Chester Crown Court on July 20.
Meadows was one of eight men arrested as part of an investigation into reports that shots were fired at a car at the junction of Bridge Street with Halton Road and Heath Road at around 8.25am last Tuesday, and which resulted in armed police units being deployed.
A Cheshire police spokesman said Meadows was charged with possession of a shotgun with intent to cause fear of violence.
He said part of the investigation relates to potential vehicle movements between Percival Lane and the scene of the alleged offence.
The other seven men arrested were from Run- corn.
Six were released under investigation: a 20-yearold on suspicion of assault by beating and possession of a loaded shotgun; 24-year-old on suspicion drink driving, failing to stop when required by an officer and possession of a weapon for discharge; 25-year-old on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life; 18-year-old on suspicion of possession of a firearm; 21-year-old, on suspicion of possession of a weapon; 21-year-old on suspicion of possession of a weapon.
A 31-year-old man from Runcorn arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender remains in police custody.
Runcorn police had requested dashcam footage as part of the investigation, in particular from any motorists driving on Percival Lane, Brindley ● Street, Mersey Road, Bridge Street and Halton Road between 7.30am and 8.30am on Tuesday, June 19.
